Ladies & Gentlemen. Welcome to The Envelope Podcast. Here on The Envelope, we discuss & review every Best Picture Winner in the Academy Awards History.
On this episode, we discuss the seventeenth Best Picture Winner: “Going My Way.”
“Going My Way” follows Father Charles O’Malley, an easy-going, golf-playing young priest whose entry into a tough neighborhood parish in midtown Manhattan is viewed with skepticism from all quarters, especially the aging Father Fitzgibbon. While dealing with some unfinished business from his former life in the form of an old flame who now sings at the Metropolitan Opera, Father O’Malley inspires the youth of his parish by forming a boys choir. Directed by Leo McCarey, the film stars Bing Crosby as Father Chuck O’Malley, Barry Fitzgerald as Father Fitzgibbon, Frank McHugh as Father Timothy O’Dowd, Risë Stevens as Genevieve Linden, and Jean Heather as Carol James.
